Begin with the mating interface
The connector cavity and mating terminus establish the starting point. The slash number identifies an interface; fiber, ferrule bore and cable retention still need to be selected for the assembly.
| Interface | Function | Connector context |
|---|---|---|
| /4 | Pin | MIL-DTL-38999 size 16 |
| /5 | Socket | MIL-DTL-38999 size 16 |
| /6 | Pin | ARINC 600 / ARINC 404 |
| /7 | Socket | ARINC 600 / ARINC 404 |
Verify the exact connector drawing and approved component requirements. A common interface designation does not establish approval for every cable assembly.
Match the fiber and the cable
Identify the optical media, fiber dimensions and tolerances, buffer, jacket and strength members. Core diameter alone is not enough to select the ferrule bore. The fiber drawing, terminus drawing and approved termination process must be considered together.
Cable retention is part of the same decision. Review the retention style, cable preparation and rear-interface geometry against the applicable drawing and procedure.
Bring these details to the selection review
- Connector part number, cavity identification and mating-half details.
- Fiber and cable datasheets, including dimensions and construction.
- Required optical performance and operating environment.
- Procurement requirements and the applicable drawing revisions.
Use the configurator to identify a candidate and retain the complete part number. Resolve any mismatches with XiOptics before releasing it on a controlled drawing.
